In Rio Grande do Sul State it is represented by nine species as follows: Pterocaulon alopecuroides (Lam.) DC., P. angustifolium DC., P.balansae Chodat, P. cordobense Kuntze, P. lorentzii Malme, P. polypterum (DC.) Cabrera, P. polystachyum DC., P. rugosum (Vahl.) Malme and P. virgatum (L.) DC. The present study provides an analitical key, species descriptions, phenological and geographical data, as well as illustrations of the species occuring in the Rio Grande do Sul State.
