Taxonomic study of the genus Chamaecrista Moench. (Leguminosae, Caesalpinioideae) in the Silvânia National Forest, Goiás, Brazil.

Chamaecrista Moench. with Pantropical distribution is the largest genus of the subfamily Caesalpinioideae, tribe Cassieae, subtribe Cassinieae with about 330 species, of which 266 are American. This genus has in Brazil one of its diversity centers with 256 species. This study aimed to perform a taxonomic study of the genus Chamaecrista in the Silvânia National Forest, Goiás, through monthly trips to the study area to collect botanical material and to observe specimens in fi eld. Were recognized 16 species, differentiated by growth form, presence or absence of nectaries and glandular trichomes, number and shape of the leafl ets. These species occur in Cerrado sensu lato and are common in at least two regions in Brazil.
