Flower morphology and anatomy of Bignoniaceae liana species
Keywords:
perianth, anther, ovary, style, nectary.Abstract
Lianas can be invasive in forests, interfering in the arboreal community’s regeneration. On the other hand, the phenological patterns of the lianas can contribute as alimentary supplement to
the fauna. The ecological importance and the investigation scarcity in fl oral anatomy of lianas motivated the morphological and anatomical study of Adenocalymma marginatum (Cham.) DC., Arrabidaea mutabilis Bureau & K. Schum., Macfadyena unguis-cati (L.) A. Gentry, and Tynanthus micranthus Corr. Méllo ex K. Schum. The fl owers in pre-anthesis and anthesis were collected in a remnant forest of Maringá (Paraná state, Brazil), fi xed in FAA 50 and FPA 50, and sectioned in rotation microtome, according to typical plant anatomy techniques. Although the fl owers of the studied Bignoniaceae species are structurally similar, there are signifi cant differences in some characters, for example, corolla coloration and shape; number of cellular layers in the perianth; trichome types in the perianth, fi lament and ovary; pattern of the anther wall formation; obturator cells; ovary vascularization; type of vascular bundle of the fi lament; and nectary occurrence/structure.
