Thalassiosira weissflogii (Coscinodiscophyceae, Bacillariophyta) in the lacustric environments on the Coastal Plain of southern Brazil

The aim of this study is to record the presence of Thalassiosira weissflogii (Grunow) Fryxell & Hasle for the first time in lacustric environments on the Coastal Plain of southern Brazil, and present information about internal and external morphology, distribution and ecology of this species. This taxon was found solitary and forming small colonies in the plankton and periphyton and it was abundant in the littoral zone in the water with high conductivity and no detectable salinity.
