Abstract

The presence of Sinningia macrostachya (Lindl.) Chautems (Gesneriaceae) is reported for the first time for the Uruguayan flora. This species has been detected in the northeastern
zone of the country known as “Sierra de Ríos” (Cerro Largo Department). Until today, it has been considered endemic to Rio Grande do Sul and the extreme southeast of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Its detection in Uruguay extends the known area of occurrence of the species; moreover, it establishes its austral limit. In Uruguay, it grows associated to wet and rocky natural cliffs, either in the open sunlight or under forest cover.
