Aclimatization and reintroduction of Cattleya intermedia Graham ex Hook (Orchidaceae) from in vitro propagation

The in vitro propagation of Cattleya intermedia was developed in a laboratory from seeding in modified Vacin and Went (1949) culture medium. After germination, two subcultures were carried out until the plants reached a size of about five centimeters. Then the plants were acclimatized in Sphagnum and Pinus bark substratum for four months where their development was monitored through monthly measurements of roots and leaves. There was a survival of 27% of the plants acclimatized in Pinus bark and 53% in Sphagnum substratum. After this period of acclimatization, the seedlings were reintroduced to the woods and a regular monitoring showed that 83% of the acclimatized plants survived.
