Abstract

Ficus cestrifolia is a native tree species of southern Brazil. It its used in landscaping and ecological conservation projects. Aiming to increase the production yield of seedlings of this species by cuttings, the response to the rooting of softwood cuttings collected in the spring were evaluated by applying fi ve concentrations of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) (0, 500, 1.000 and 2.000 and 4.000 mg.L-1) and two greenhouse environments (with or without intermittent mist). Completely randomized block designs were used, with four replicates. The cuttings in the greenhouse under intermittent mist had higher survival percentage (80.8 %), rooting (78.8 %) and number of roots (5.5). Rooting increased proportionally with the concentration of IBA, with saturation response to intermediate concentrations of auxin. This species is easily propagated by cuttings.
